Source lineage is a new strip in Yeşilçam Studios that shows where a piece of work came from and what was made from it. When you open an image, “Made from this image” lists the videos, animations, designs or sites produced from it; when you open a video or an animation, the “Source image” link takes you back to the starting point.
We walk through where the strip appears and how to read it in the source lineage guide; this post explains why we needed it.
Why source lineage?
As the studios multiplied, work started travelling between them. You make an image in Image Studio, animate it in Custom and place it on a poster in Design Studio; a product photo becomes an Assemble / Disassemble video, and that becomes a website. A week later, the answer to “which image was on this poster?” could get lost in the library.
Source lineage keeps that chain automatically. You don’t have to set up tags or folders; the link is created the moment you take a piece of work into another studio.
This matters most for anyone working with clients. An agency can turn one product image into a poster, a social animation and a landing page; when a revision comes in, knowing which files share the same source also tells you which ones need updating. Source lineage answers that on the work’s own page, without a search through the library.
Where do you see it?
- Film Studio and Image Studio: in the image preview window, the video window in the library and the Assemble / Disassemble project view.
- Animation Studio: in the details of your Custom works.
- Website Studio: on the site detail page, as a link to the video the site was built from.
Each item in the strip shows its type: Image, Video, Audio, Animation, Assemble / Disassemble, Website or Design. Work that is not finished yet is marked “In progress”. Clicking an item opens it in the right studio.
How to make use of it
- When you want to use an image in several ways, open it first; the strip shows what you already made, so you don’t produce the same thing twice.
- Check the chain before delivering to a client: is the image on the poster the same as the one in the video?
- Go back to the source image of an animation you like and make a new version with a different camera path; we introduced Custom in our Custom post.
- If you built a site from an Assemble / Disassemble video, open the source video before updating the site to see which version was used.
Privacy and cost
Source lineage is built only between your own work and is visible only to you. It costs nothing extra, and it was also created retroactively for existing work. For the places where lineage starts, see the Image Studio, Custom and Website Studio pages.
