Source lineage is a small strip in Yeşilçam Studios that shows where a piece of work came from and what was made from it. When you open an image, related work is listed as small cards under "Source image" and "Made from this image"; when you open a video, under "Made from this video". Click a card to open that work in its own studio. The links are created automatically; you don’t need to do anything.
Why does source lineage exist?
In Yeşilçam Studios one job is often the continuation of another. An image you made in Image Studio becomes an animation with Custom; a product photo becomes an Assemble / Disassemble video, and that video becomes a site in Website Studio. When, a few weeks later, you ask "which photo did this site’s video come from?" or "did I already make a video from this image?", a glance at the strip replaces a search through the Library.
Where does the strip appear?
Source lineage appears on these screens:
- Image viewer: the window where you enlarge an image result in Image Studio or Film Studio.
- Video window in the Library: when you open a video in the Library.
- Assemble / Disassemble project view: when you open a project in the Assemble / Disassemble template in Film Studio.
- Custom job page: when you open a Custom video in Animation Studio.
- Website Studio site details: on a site’s detail page.
- Design Studio editor: in the side panel of a design.
If a piece of work has no links, the strip does not appear at all. So if you don’t see it, that is not an error; that work was not made from anything else and nothing has been made from it yet.
What does the strip show?
The strip shows both directions:
| Heading | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Source / Source image | The image or work the open item was made from |
| Made from this image | Videos, animations, Assemble / Disassemble projects, sites or designs made from this image |
| Made from this video | Sites and other work made from this video |
The strip goes up to two generations: the source of the source, and what was made from the things made from it, can also appear. Each card has a small preview, its type (Image, Video, Audio, Animation, Assemble / Disassemble, Website or Design) and its title if it has one. A job that hasn’t finished shows "In progress" and updates with its preview when done.
What happens when you click a card?
- An image or video card opens that asset in the same window or in the Library.
- An animation card opens the matching Custom job page in Animation Studio.
- An Assemble / Disassemble card opens that project in Film Studio.
- A website card opens the site’s detail page in Website Studio, and a design card opens the design in Design Studio.
The card of a piece of work that was deleted or can no longer be opened may stay in the list, but it cannot be clicked.
How are links created?
You don’t create links yourself; they appear the moment you start one piece of work from another. Examples:
- When you start a Custom video with the Turn into animation button on an Image Studio result or in the Library, the image and the video are linked. More on Custom in the Custom guide.
- When you make an Assemble / Disassemble video from a product photo, the photo and the project are linked; see the Assemble / Disassemble guide.
- When you build a site in Website Studio from an Assemble / Disassemble video, the video and the site are linked; see the Website Studio guide.
- When you generate another image or video using an image as its source, the result is linked to that source.
Links are only made between work in your own account and are only visible to you. Other users’ work never shows up in your strip, and yours never shows up in theirs.
An example chain
Think of the work an agency does for a single product. First, a studio image of the product is made in Image Studio. With the Turn into animation button on that image’s card, a short promo clip is made in Custom. From the product photo, an Assemble / Disassemble video is prepared in Film Studio, and that video is turned into a scrolling product page in Website Studio.
At each link of this chain the strip shows a different direction. When you open the image, the Custom clip appears under "Made from this image". On the Custom job page the same image sits under "Source image". In the Assemble / Disassemble project the source photo and the site made from the project are listed together; when you open the site, you see two generations back, to the video and to the photo. So when, months later, the client says "let’s change the video on the site a little", you get back to the right project and the right photo in one click.
How can you use source lineage?
- Tracing client work: find in one click which product photo a site or a design came from.
- Avoiding repeats: see whether you already made a video from an image, so you don’t produce the same job twice.
- Comparing variations: find the different camera paths or videos you made from the same image side by side.
- Going back to the source: if you don’t like a video, go back to the source image and start again from there.
Frequently asked
I can’t see the strip. Is something wrong? No. If the work has no source and nothing has been made from it, the strip is not shown. As soon as you make a video or animation from an image, the strip appears by itself.
Can I add or remove links by hand? No. Links are created automatically when you start one piece of work from another. If you delete a piece of work, its card can no longer be opened.
Can other people see my source lineage? No. Links are only made between work in your own account, and only you can see them.
Does source lineage cost tokens? No. The strip is free; only if you start a new generation in a studio you opened from the strip is the normal price for that generation charged. Prices are on the pricing page.
How many generations back or forward does it show? Up to two: you can see an image’s source and the source of that source, what was made from it, and what was made from those.
