Film Studio has two text-first paths. They share the same account and wallet, both start with a pasted text, and both end with an MP4, but they produce very different films and cost very different amounts. Choosing the right one first saves money and avoids the disappointment of asking a tool to do what it was not built for.

Inkmation

A brush-drawn explainer: characters, props and scenes are drawn live from a fixed library of sketched parts (people, desks, phones, whiteboards), animated in five phases, with narration, music and captions. It runs in two stages. In the first you paste the story and choose a platform and a style; Inkmation writes a script with a fixed number of beats, chooses a voice and proposes a music mood, and you edit the script freely within the platform's length limit. In the second you approve the script; narration is generated and checked against it, music is generated to the same length, frames are animated and everything is rendered to MP4, with WebP and GIF available for previews.

Eleven platform and style presets cover vertical shorts, square posts and widescreen. The style sets line weight, palette and motion; the platform sets aspect ratio and duration. It is fast, inexpensive and predictable, and it is at its best with explainers, product stories, company histories and anything where a warm, sketched look is the point.

Its limits come from the library. Characters are stylised people, so a story about a frog and a firefly becomes a story about two people in green and yellow. Styles change the drawing texture, not the character design, and there is no cast: one narrator reads the piece.

Story to film

A generative film: the director casts the story, every character is designed in the chosen style as a reference sheet, scenes are rendered as keyframes from those sheets and animated by a video model, lines are spoken by character voices and lip-synced, and a narrator bridges the events. Fairy tales, fiction, ads with characters and anything that needs a specific look belong here. Eight visual styles are available, from Anime to Cinematic realism.

It costs more per second because every scene is a video generation, and it takes longer, minutes rather than seconds. The screenplay and cast are charged at creation; the production price is shown on the Ready screen before you confirm.

  • Explaining something: Inkmation.
  • Telling a story with characters: Story to film.
  • Making a social clip on a deadline: Inkmation, sized by its platform preset.
  • Characters that are not people: Story to film, without exception.
  • Not sure: run Inkmation first, it is cheap; if the characters matter, move to Story to film with the same text.

What both improved recently

Both paths now clean the pasted text (markdown, notes and chat lines are dropped), both suggest a length from the text and warn when the chosen length is too short, and both keep dialogue verbatim instead of summarising it. The warning exists because obeying a too-short target produces a compressed script in which sentences lose their meaning; the studio now says so before you spend.

Using both on one text

The two paths are not exclusive. A common pattern is an Inkmation explainer for the product and a Story to film piece for the brand story, both from the same source document, both cut together in Cinema Studio. Because both land in the Library, joining them is a matter of dropping two films on the timeline.
